Questions
The things people ask.
Mostly about Elf in Chains — what it actually is, who you get to be in it and more. If your question isn't here, email us at [email protected].
What kind of games does Aedian Glair make?
Adult dark fantasy romance RPGs. The stories are built around a cast you are meant to fall for — hand-painted, semi-realistic art, hundreds of thousands of words, and romance that grows naturally rather than unlocks.
Every title carries BL / yaoi routes; the newest, Elf in Chains, adds otome and M/F alongside them. Three titles are out now and Elf in Chains is in development.
Is Elf in Chains a dating sim or a visual novel?
Honestly, both and a lot more like having 4 unique MCs that play different and interact different with other characters, stats, skill checks — which is why we call it an RPG. The storytelling is visual novel: hand-painted scenes, animated backgrounds, dozens of endings good, bad and in between. Branching interactive fiction, and choices that genuinely change where you end up.
Underneath that sit dating sim and raising sim systems. Every love interest has an affection track, your protagonist has stats that grow, and the manor runs on a day and night cycle with map travel and time management — so what you can do depends on who you have become and how you have spent your evenings.
What is stat raising in Elf in Chains?
It is the reason a scene you were refused in week one is available to you in week ten. Your protagonist carries stats — Influence and Lust foremost among them — and they rise according to how you spend a limited number of days and nights.
Raising them does not buy you anyone. It changes what you are able to attempt: conversations that were closed, choices that were greyed out, and routes that needed you to be a different person than the captive you first arrived as.
How long is Elf in Chains? How many words?
Around 500,000 words across the full branching saga — roughly the length of a long fantasy trilogy, and considerably more than one playthrough will show you.
The scale is not the pitch, though. It is the reason the cast has room to change and romance has the room to grow: half a million words means the person he is at the end is not the person you met.
Who do you play as? Can I choose a male or female protagonist?
Yes to all of it. There are four playable protagonists — Evennar, Melodia, Kiara and Jalek, two men and two women — and you choose which of them you are at the start.
Nothing is gated on that choice. A male MC can romance men and women, a female MC can romance men, and you can play bi across a single run. The three protagonists you do not play stay in the story as people you can pursue.
Is Elf in Chains a BL game? Which routes are boys love / yaoi?
It is, and BL is where this studio started — every title we have made carries it. In Elf in Chains, playing as Evennar or Jalek puts you with the male cast, and Jalek is exclusively interested in men. Boys love, yaoi, MLM, M/M — different words for the same routes, and they are written with the same care as everything else on the disc rather than treated as the optional version.
There is also an in-game content filter — Yaoi, Straight, or all of it — so you can set the shape of a playthrough before you start rather than steering around content you did not want.
If you want BL you can play today, all three finished titles are BL: Diamond Mirage, Xissai: the Snake Temple and the 16+ thriller Glass Hearts.
Is there an otome route? Can I play a female MC and romance men?
Yes — otome is a full half of this game. Choose Melodia or Kiara and you are playing a female protagonist with her own voice, her own history and her own reasons for being in that manor, and five of the ten love interests are hers to pursue: Seralash, Thielen, Saani, Evennar and Alosh.
Each of them has his own affection track, his own reasons to refuse you and his own endings, so an otome run is not the BL script with the pronouns changed. The stat raising, the day and night cycle, the skill checks and the branching all work identically — whichever protagonist you pick, you are playing the whole game.
Otome, josei, shoujo, reverse harem, M/F romance: whichever shelf you file it on, none of it is a separate purchase or a second edition. It is one game, and the content filter lets you set a run to Straight if BL is not what you came for.
Does Elf in Chains have multiple endings?
Many. Branching choices marked with a key icon reshape the saga rather than just swapping the final scene, so the route you walk changes the journey as much as the destination — including who survives it with you.
Is there an uncensored version of Elf in Chains?
There is only one version and it is uncensored. The full 18+ build ships on Steam behind Steam’s own age verification — no patch, no separate download, everything unlocked.
When does Elf in Chains come out?
We are aiming for 2026 release — it is a very large game and two people are making it. Wishlisting on Steam is the single most useful thing you can do: it is what tells Steam to show the game to other people, and it is how you find out the day it launches.
What can I play right now?
Three finished titles. Diamond Mirage is a BL fantasy following Ellyn, a young elf, with four love interests and detailed CG art. Xissai: the Snake Temple is a similarly sized, spicy incest BL fantasy of ritual and serpent-kin, uncensored, with three endings. Glass Hearts is a 16+ choice-driven psychological BL thriller — dread and consequence rather than explicit content.
All three are on Steam, and each has its own page here with art, features and content notes.
